I like the idea of a shattered world … I just went through my Tolkien dictionary and wrote down a hundred or more names that I liked (most of which are not well known). I'll type the list in with stars by the names I particularly liked.
The word I pulled out for the name of the world is Algarond (actually a misreading of Aglarond which means Halls of Glory) … this would be both the name of the land and the name of the empire that created all the ruins that exist in the world. The capital city was Celebrent. Now that the land has shattered (in magical and geological ways), many refer to the land as Dimholt.
And now for the list … we'll see how long a post can be :)

Feel free to ignore the *(s) and use any words you think are fitting as you put pieces together.
I'd like a couple of elf places, a couple of bad places, a wizard's place, and bits and pieces of the empire here and there with the main city still fairly sophisticated. Feel free to use whatever geographic / geological disruptions you desire to make travel between the places difficult. A big desert would be cool; a big mountain range or two would be cool as well.
